SCHOOL IS OUT!!!!

Yeah that is me freaking out because today is my children's last day of school and I still have several chapters to go before I am done with my end of the editing. I'm usually really happy when my kids are home for summer break. I like having them home and relaxing for the summer, but if today is any indication of how the summer is going to go I'm not sure I'm ready. From the second they walked in the door they've done nothing but whine and complain. Are we sure we can push the school year out another week? Please!!

One good thing about summer vacation is I can do the late nights editing and not have to deal with the early mornings getting the kids ready for school . I still have hope that I will be able to get my part done in time for a June release.

Fingers Crossed!

Just Another Reason

I have followed a certain blog religiously for the last two years. This blog is my favorite agent's blog. The blog is called Pub Rants and the agent is Kristin Nelson. She is the agent that I would want representing me if I were going to publish traditionally. She knows her stuff and does her job.

She is one of the many sources that I go to for information on writing and the publishing world in general. She is also one of the reasons I am choosing e-publishing over traditional publishing. Her last blog entry titled, Tales From The Contract Wars, just reinforces my decision to e-publish. Trust is a big deal to me and from everything I've read and researched I believe I would have a hard time trusting many of the traditional publishers.

If you are interested in the publishing world I strongly suggest her blog. It has a plethora of information that any writer hoping to be published one day should know. Her blog also contains links to other blogs and websites that are really helpful.

If you are interested here is the link http://pubrants.blogspot.com/

Have a great weekend and hopefully when I blog again it will be about being finished with my end of the editing process. ;)

I'm Still Here

I realize that I haven't been as active as I would like to be on my blog, but right now I am pushing really hard to get the book finished up. My kids have one more week of school and my hope is to have my part all finished by then. I will try harder to keep everyone updated on the progress.

I do have some good news. The wonderful graphic designer that is helping with my book cover just had a beautiful baby girl. I wanted to give her a shout out and tell her congratulations and welcome Olivia L. W. into the world.

It Must Be a Sign

You know you've been editing too long when you look at a chapter and think, "Do I really need this chapter? I bet the book would be just as good without it." Yep folks that's exactly what I thought last night while working on Forbidden.

The moral of the story is, "Quit while you're ahead before you do something that puts you further behind."

Did I Mention...

I hate writing summaries almost as much as I hate writing query letters. I know and I call myself a writer, but trying to cram the delicate and magical world I created onto two pages is hard and very time consuming for me. I hate not being able to explain every little detail, but that is exactly what I've had to do tonight.

I was asked by the very talented designer that is working on my cover for a summary of Forbidden. I would have to say I'm glad she asked for it because it really made me think about the work as a whole and not just chapter by chapter. I should thank her for asking me to do it although when she reads it I'm sure she'll being wishing she hadn't. I've been so busy trying to finish up the final editing on the book I kind of rushed through the summary tonight. I didn't even proof read it. (Gasp!! I know I should be ashamed of myself.)

Also just in case you didn't know late nights and early morning are such a bad idea. I never do quality work when I try and pull that off. So many mistakes that could have been avoided by just going to bed a little earlier or staying in bed a little later.

With that note I am off to bed. Happy Mother's Day to my own wonderful mother and to all the other wonderful mothers out there.

Slow Progress

Who would have thought that editing a book that has been edited a hundred times already would take so long?

Progress has been slow on the editing front, but don't worry I have had a break through and things are running smoothly now. I am still aiming for a June release. I do have exciting news about the cover. I have been offered help from a very talented artistic/graphic designer.

She does excellent work and offered tips on how to make the cover look even better. If you have ever purchased a book from Covenant Books you may already have seen some of her work. She does a lot of freelance work for them.

If any of you are looking for someone who knows graphic design let me know. You won't find someone who will do a better job. She has done everything from book design, invitations, political election promotions and even funeral programs. Beautiful work, I promise.
